Tyre Shop Leads | Stop Losing Customers & Convert More Enquiries
Reading time: 6 minutes
“We need more customers.”
It’s one of the most common thoughts in business.
So you spend money.
Google Ads.
Facebook.
Leaflets.
Social media.
Maybe even a new website.
But before spending another £500 trying to make the phone ring, there’s a question worth asking:
What happens to the enquiries you’re already getting?
Because sometimes the problem isn’t a lack of leads.
It’s what happens after the lead arrives.
Start With the Missed Calls
A customer needs tyres.
They search online, find your number and call.
Nobody answers.
What do they do?
Usually, they don’t wait patiently for you to call back.
They call the next tyre shop.
One missed call can be one lost job.
And if that customer owns two cars, has a family and would have recommended you to someone else, the real value lost could be much bigger.
How Quickly Do You Reply?
The same applies to:
- Facebook messages
- website enquiries
- emails
Someone asking about tyres today probably wants them fairly soon.
A reply tomorrow may be too late.
Speed matters.
You don’t need to answer everything instantly, but you need a system so enquiries aren’t forgotten.
“I’ll Let You Know” Isn’t Always the End
You quote a customer.
They say:
“Okay, I’ll let you know.”
Most businesses leave it there.
But why?
If you’ve got their details, a polite follow-up later could be enough:
“Hi, just checking whether you still needed those 225/45R17 tyres we quoted earlier. Let us know if you’d like us to get them booked in.”
No pressure.
Just a reminder.
Sometimes people genuinely forget.
Record Your Enquiries
Here’s a simple experiment.
For one week, record:
- number of phone enquiries
- WhatsApp enquiries
- online enquiries
- quotes given
- bookings made
You might discover something surprising.
Imagine you receive 100 genuine enquiries but only book 35.
Before trying to generate 120 enquiries, what if you could turn 45 of the existing 100 into customers?
That’s growth without buying another lead.
Make It Easy to Say Yes
Sometimes customers don’t book because the next step isn’t clear.
Don’t finish with:
“Give us a call if you want it.”
Try:
“We’ve got that available. Would morning or afternoon suit you better?”
You’re helping the customer move forward.
Not pressuring them.
Give Customers Options
If the customer doesn’t like your first option, don’t immediately lose the enquiry.
Could you offer:
- another brand?
- another price point?
- another fitting time?
- another suitable solution?
One “no” doesn’t always mean the conversation is finished.
Track Why You Lose Work
When you don’t win a job, record the reason where possible.
For example:
- Too expensive
- Didn’t have stock
- Couldn’t fit soon enough
- Customer didn’t answer
- Went elsewhere
After a month, patterns start appearing.
Now you know what actually needs fixing.
Marketing Won’t Fix a Broken Sales Process
Imagine pouring water into a bucket with holes.
You could keep pouring faster.
Or you could fix the holes.
Marketing works the same way.
More leads are useful.
But if enquiries are constantly being missed, forgotten or poorly handled, increasing advertising spend simply creates more opportunities to lose customers.
Give Someone Ownership
One simple improvement is making someone responsible.
Who’s checking:
- missed calls?
- WhatsApp?
- online enquiries?
- outstanding quotes?
If the answer is:
“Everyone.”
There’s a danger that nobody really owns it.
Give responsibility to someone.
Then measure it.
Final Thought
Before asking:
“How do we get more customers?”
Ask:
“How many customers are we already losing?”
Answer the phone.
Reply quickly.
Follow up quotes.
Record lost jobs.
Improve your conversion.
Sometimes the cheapest lead you’ll ever generate is the one that’s already sitting in your phone.
