How to Attract Van Drivers to Your Tyre Shop
Reading time: 4 minutes
Van drivers are one of the most overlooked customer groups in the tyre industry — and one of the most profitable.
If your tyre shop isn’t actively trying to attract more van owners and tradespeople, you’re missing out on repeat business, loyal customers, and bigger transactions. Here’s how to become their go-to tyre stop.
1. Keep Popular Van Sizes in Stock
Most van drivers don’t have time to wait for tyres to arrive. If you want to win their business, make sure you’re holding stock of common commercial tyre sizes like:
- 195/65R16C
- 215/65R16C
- 235/65R16C
- 205/75R16C
- 225/70R15C
These tyres are essential for vehicles like Ford Transit, VW Transporter, Vauxhall Vivaro, and Mercedes Sprinter — and if you have them ready, you’ll win jobs others can’t fulfil.
2. Open Early (or Offer Same-Day Slots)
Tradespeople and van drivers often finish early or start before 9am. If you can take early bookings or fit them in last-minute during the day, they’ll remember your speed.
Even better: promote this. Add “Same Day Tyres for Van Drivers” or “Open from 8am for Trades Vans” on your Google listing and website.
3. Offer While-You-Wait Perks
Van drivers usually want to wait while you fit — they can’t afford to be without their vehicle.
Give them a reason to relax while they do:
- Free coffee or tea
- QR code for Google review on the coffee cup
- Free Wi-Fi or somewhere to sit
- Plug sockets if possible
- Fast turnaround target: “Back on the road in 30 mins”
They’ll appreciate the speed and the thought.
4. Speak Their Language in Your Ads
If you do any local marketing — Google posts, Facebook ads, even flyers — make sure you’re calling out the audience directly:
“Tradesperson? Need tyres for your van today?”
“Tyres for Sprinter, Transit, Vivaro & more — in stock”
“We fit van tyres while you wait — early morning slots available”
Make sure they know you’re set up for them.
5. Offer Trade Accounts or Loyalty Cards
If you want to get serious, offer van drivers a trade card — 10% off repeat jobs or a stamp card for every tyre fitted.
Even if you just let them build a tab and pay monthly (for trusted regulars), you’ll win loyalty — and referrals.
Summary:
Van drivers need you more often than the average motorist. If you stock the right tyres, make the process fast, and treat them well, they’ll keep coming back — and send others your way.
